Headed to the "A"
It's Glazier Atlanta week. I can't wait to see some old friends and meet some new ones! I am sure we will be discussing the most important topics facing our profession all weekend. There will be echos, there will be disagreements, and there will be fellowship. It's always a good time. This past week, we were attacked by an administration as a profession. This was not shocking to me in the least. I apologize for taking the bait and actually responding. Never argue

Clinic Season is Upon Us
It is that time of year. Clinics abound all over the country and the off-season is the time to get new ideas, connect or re-connect with old friends and learn some ball. I don't really care if you go to COY clinics, Glazier, or any others that are out there. I just encourage you to go to at least one. You may learn something. I was in Orlando last weekend for the Glazier. 800 coaches showed up to get better at what they do. The exhibitors were awesome, the Rosen Centre

Just like that...
And as Tommy Cooper said, "just like that." January is over with. Now we progress into the month of love. I would like to remind you all to make sure you have made arrangements for Valentimes Day well in advance. My darling person sent me a FB message reel of a lady getting a cupcake bouquet and said, "I want this." See that's easy. I work best when I am told exactly what to do. With that being said, the job market for high school coaches work best when you know exactl

College football is over....
Indiana, yes, the Hoosiers, are your National Champions. This is how much the game has changed. Great Coach, great resources, NIL, transfers, and even YOU can win one. So now that the CFP is over, we can give our undivided attention to the GA High School job market. It's been a fun year keeping up with it and there are at least 2 months left in the cycle. Recently, my dude at the GAFFCA addressed the topic of why out of state coaches don't get looks. I have opinions, I

About to get loose in turn #3!
It is officially on and poppin' my dudes. This job season is going to be all the way live. It already is and there is bound to be more to come! Big Dawg jobs open, some people moving on up like George and Weezy! The trickle down effect should allow for some entry-level HFC positions to come open. We all know or knew some of these were coming, but there were some surprises. One thing that has become obvious is which places are functional and have a clue. Gainesville fo

OOOWEEEE What a day!
Yesterday was one of the most eventful days in the history of high school football job openings in Georgia. There were swaps, there were moves, and there were hot deuces chunked. Most of the moves were expected, but there were some surprises. Ya'll need to get ready for there will be more. And remember this: they will fill Err one of them, good, great, bad, terrible, some one will take each of these jobs. Good luck and happy hunting. Monroe- Albany school and Coach He

Happy 2026 Drs!
Well, it's a new year and the carousel is officially spinning wildly out of control...and I love it! Chaos is an agent of change and I am here for it. There were decisions made, resolutions resolved, and diets started in the past week. Let's see how this all works out. If you made any resolutions, I hope you realize them. Check out coachingportfolio.com to get right for the off-season! Clinch- A blue-blood program that generally stays in the family. If you like l

Almost Over
Well, the championship games will be over tonight and 3A and that other A will have a new champion. Congrats to Bowdon, Worth County, Carver-Columbus, Buford, and Creekside on fantastic Seasons! I haven't seen the first game, but I understand that they have all been very competitive and good games. I have also heard that the scheduling and replay aspects of the games are atrocious. I am sure this will be addressed, but hey, ya'll want them to have "the experience" so we

We have a new BOB!
Well, we are inside of two weeks until the Christmas break and jobs are a poppin'! Hart County is now the BOB. That's "best on board" for all of you that ask. Admin is awesome, AD is awesome, hands down the best job on the board right now. So polish up those dress shoes and get your Sunday go to meetin' clothes pressed. Make sure your references are solid and you might want to check your social media posts and any stances you might have taken in the past oh, say 2 weeks.

On and Poppin'!
The joys of December and the holiday season are upon us. I for one LOVE it! Not only is it a short sprint to another break, it is a time of family and friends getting together and the crowning of high school football state champions. I enjoy the season, I enjoy the lights (I am not going to Griswold MY house up, but you please do!), I enjoy the hustle and bustle. What do I enjoy most you ask? Well, it's gotta be the "chrimas lights" as I say to my wife. I will develop a

The Semis
Well, it's semi-final week, for most anyway. My last words on the mess that has become G'ville vs. GHSA are these: 1. We all know the rules for leaving the sideline and the attaching to the word "and" is funny to me. The players are ejected as they leave the sideline. That's the rule, we all know it, quit playing. 2. Only issue I have is the handling of the 11 on the field at the time. I didn't see all 11 get involved. They should be exonerated. 3. Langston-Hughes

State of the State as I see it
Well, I am watching everyone scramble around for for games. Yeah, that PSR hits different when it comes scheduling time doesn't it?! "But coach, YOUR representation almost unanimously voted in favor for it." But did they? Doesn't sound like it. Have you been to an executive counsel meeting? Well they don't always vote the way the region sent them to vote...not saying that happened but we obviously spend enough time researching and thinking long-term unintended consequenc

Frost is on the Pumpkin
Well, after what may be the last Thursday walk through/practice of 2025 for the good Dr, we are ready to pile our sawed off country kids up and head to them thar hills/mountains. We practice every morning at 6 am and if you don't, you need to. It has really helped me with my poor health to get through season 30. Now on to the jobs. Already people are aggravating me and the others about jobs. Coaching jobs in GA are like buying nice things. If you have to ask, it ai

Week 1 of Playoffs and Jobs are Poppin'
So here we is. Week 1 of the GHSA playoffs and it's time to either take up costumes or keep chasing it. FTE and regions are now done and set and if you didn't get what you wanted, don't worry, in 2 years they will find a new way to piss you off. Jobs are coming open and well, there's that. Camden County- Well, this is one of those that they call you and you generally have to have a ring as the HFC. They shouldn't expect you to be at a single professional development meeti

The Carousel and the Rules
Black Monday has come and gone and as there always are, jobs are open. You may be interested in becoming a HFC. You may just have a curiosity that needs to be itched regarding who goes where. Who knows, you may want to just tag along and be an assistant on a new staff. Whatever you want to do, I will provide MY guidelines regarding jobs. MY take on the openings are not just mine alone. Come at me if you like, but I put what the GA coaching community thinks and says abou

That Time of Year
Well kids and coaches (to quote the great Kent Murphy) it's that time of year again. Yep, people are getting ready for the playoffs and other are taking up the costumes, so I imagine morale may be a little low for some as we head into the holiday/job season. Here is a list of things that may lower morale on your staff this year: Your division doesn't use PSR for playoffs and you finished 6-4 and lost the tie breaker for the 4 spot. Your admin told you 2 months ago that it
