Playoffs Start Tonight

Well kids, it's extra time starting tonight. Your guaranteed 10 games are over with and now it is time for those of you that qualified to be rewarded with a 5 game tournament to see who is the best in your classification.

Now, I am an old head, and I remember when round one was actually a region championship when 1 played 4 etc. and the top 2 moved on. Back then, you had a north GA champion and a south GA champion and they played for it all. I wouldn't mind seeing that model again. It would alleviate some scheduling concerns. This system would definitely keep a team like say...ummm....Coosa from traveling to Sylvester GA in Round 1.

Why do these things happen? Well, I believe that the powers that be don't:

A: own a map

2: care about the overall well being of the children and the member schools

With that being said, I also believe that each classification may need a different playoff set up as each classification presents unique challenges. "We already do this," some may argue. Well, do it better. Changing the region rotation without meeting about it or asking the MEMBER schools what they want to do for the first time in 30+ years wasn't too bright either. Here's what I don't believe: a classification that has 43 football playing schools sending 32 of them to the playoffs. That is asinine. I also believe in Bigfoot so there's that.

I hope all of you that made it enjoy the ride. I have been fortunate to make the playoffs a few times in my career on the football side of it and it is special. It is more special to practice on Thanksgiving. Those of you that always do, don't take it for granted. There are a lot of guys that took up the costumes this past Monday and would love to be in your shoes. Whether you are 1 and done or end up being the last man standing, coach hard, coach fast and GATA!
